Time machine - wives liviing today in the 50s, 40s, 30s

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1042702/Time-Warp-Wives-Meet-women-really-live-past.html

If I were to choose, I would say get me a wife from the 50s!

I adore cloche hats from the 30s.

Lord & Taylor, on sale @ $24.99

But 50s wife as of from "Mad Men" is the best.
This couple is featured in TV series here:

According to Joanne Massey of the UK show Beehive wives her idea of the perfect day is staying in and cooking for her husband “I love nothing better than fastening my pinny round my waist and baking a cake for Kevin in my 1950s kitchen.I put on some lovely Frank Sinatra music and am completely lost in my own little fantasy world. In our marriage, I am very much a lady and Kevin is the breadwinner and my protector. We’ve been married for 13 years and we’re extremely happy because we both know our roles. There is none of the battling for equality that I see in so many marriages today.”

That was from 2008.

"They never mentioned that I do actually have a job (Joanne works two days a week at Shugborough Hall)."

Joanne was also irritated that neither organisation mentioned her considerable vocal talents. The 36-year-old is better known as her alter ego Lola Lamour, a Forties chanteuse who entertains audiences at dances and re-enactment events across the land.

That was from 2009.

Joanne has three jobs and she enjoys them all. She works part-time in the shop at a National Trust property near where she lives. “Its a great place to work. Its right on my doorstop and I can cycle to work in the Summer on my 1930's push bike! My colleagues at the shop are good fun and lovely people. I also get to meet and chat with the customers and many locals come in for a chat.”

On some weekends she also works for the lord who lives at the property, which is her second job. Joanne said that it has been a great experience for her working there. She also had worked for Lord Patrick Lichfield up until his death a few years ago. “I enjoyed every minute of it. He was a true English gentleman and I miss him.”

Joanne would work at his house whenever he would have a house party, which was every other weekend in the Autumn as it is shooting season. “I was and am a maid. I do the rooms, serve dinner and help in the kitchen. Pack and unpack for guests. It was one of the best experiences of my life as I met many rich and famous people.” Since Joanne began her singing career, which is her third job, she hasn’t been able to work there much.

That was from 2010 - this interview creates a more sophisticated portrait.

Hope to find more follow-up articles and interviews in recent years.

Back into the future

Sketchfab Talks 3D Printable Ties

There aren’t many ways that men today can express themselves with formal or office wear these days. While women are often pressured to wear stylish and expressive clothing, men tend to be forced into a box of bland sameness where your suit colors are black, brown, or blue. But wearing interesting neckties is often where men are allowed to shine, and express themselves and their unique personalities.

And what is awesome, neckties work for girls too!

And I told you so.

3D fashion accessories are here

If you are a future-absorbing fashionable being,
order a tie warm from 3D printer at Cheloni in time for 2015 New Year's party.

I know a girl who is wearing them to work.
Great conversation-starter. I mean I talked to her during elevator ride.
She gave a 30 second spiel on environment and woman's place in workforce.
Biodegradable ties, yes, here they are.
Apparently, work equally well for men and women.
Great color selection of solids and combos (hers was pink and black).

Me still into linen, long skirts, funky cardigans

How can I  get this one -- Eleen Fisher
Handkerchief Linen Cinchable Long Skirt with "rushed" effect @ cheap?

For I am cheap though I have money.
I see no justification for spending 248$ on a skirt at Neuman Marcus vs. spending 50$ and using the rest for good cause.
Like buying a case of soft guns and distributing them among boy from  the neighborhood so they can shoot woodpeckers (woodpecker being migrating birds and protected species, so adults can't shoot them from air guns).

Women's 360 Sweater Emmanuelle Cashmere Blend Cardigan is also of interest to me. Cute, cure design. British. Think All Saints.

Another idea -- to buy Singer sewing machine and put something together myself. Pays off long term for sure.

Material life in 3D -- and you are in control

3D is coming for us.
I personally own a ring printed by a friend, STL file courtesy of CAD business owner, design by serious jeweler from Spain who used 3D software for custom design of a fancy ring to be made of platinum, gold and a handful of diamonds.
My ring is made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. It crumbles because it's just the base, awaiting for golden animals and diamonds to be inserted in assigned positions.  Well, had the base been made out of platinum, it probably won't curmble at all.
Next question: could 3D printers use metal wire to print?
According to my superficial reading on the subject, the answer is positive.

This recent article in Daily Mail  referes to control over shoes which are even more important objects in our daily life than rings:

shoes on a 3D printer (and this revolutionary shopping trend will change all our lives)

My own post on Jimmy Choo's shoes was even more trivial. Something about wedges.
But let's compare the shoes, these high-heel sandals. Tell me whether it's Jimmi Choo on the left and 3D printed shoes on the rigjht or visa versa. For me it's all the  same - I can wear neither of them for the reasons not related to dirty subject of money.

If Lydia Slater had bought her strappy sandals from Jimmy Choo they would have cost her around £222

But if you can -- wear them and enjoy!

Fossil hand bags

Owned a Fossil watch once.
But my real obsession are Fossil handbags.

Something of along these lines - Vintage Revival Handbags

Oh wait. I own this one. It's practical and perfectly all right. Not much to talk about. I meant something like this
Material: Leather
Interior Material: Jacquard - 100% Polyester
(well, silk lining would've been more classy)
Closure: Turnlock
Interior Details: 2 Media pockets, back wall zipper pocket
Measurements: 15"L x 4"W x 7.25"H
Handles / Straps: Single handle
Drop: 6" L

A strapless purse. Not practical at all. To be used on rare occasion of going to the theatre show with escort. What if I find it under the tree?

Holiday season is 'round the corner...

And how do I know?

I went to the mall and saw Tesla installed right in the middle of it. Well, in a separate TESLA salon. But this has nothing to do with the holidays. You can't exactly buy this shining miracle. Not for XMas. You can reserve one for 5K.

So back to holidays agenda. It's all about giving. And giving means buying.  Got a new baby in the family? Right in time. You can purchase Ralph Lauren  Convertible Shearling Bunting  for just $950.
And while we are still on Ralph Lauren brand -  treat yourself to

Jesrina Suede-Gold Heel Sandal @Price: $1400.00
If you can't afford the baby envelope, I suggest to skip baby winter item
in favour of shoes - adult sandals make much more sense given the climate change.

On a serious note, Ralth Lauren offers
tons of great reasonably priced quality clothes on sale.
Enjoy your shopping season!

Fashion twit: AllSaints denim

Premium denim, sewn and washed in Los Angeles, USA.
Slim fitting, 5 pocket jean made from 11oz stretch,
light grey bleached out denim with tinted 3D whiskers.
The Lovatt drainpipe jean features AllSaints
signature rusty metalwork and a brown leather patch.
Five pocket hot pant shorts with a mid indigo colour level and a vintage worn-in wash,
raw edge finish and 3D creases.
This style features a brown leather patch and rusty metalwork.

I somehow engaged into no-win game with  AllSaints Spitalfields.
Ordered an item, didn't like it or it was not a good fit, returned. With their rediculous return policy of 14 days I was late. So I got a very nicely packaged gift card - store credit. Ordered much more and way above the stored credit amount. Liked none of it. Returned. Got charged for shipping. Got delta back. The gift card which I saved because of nice design was back to it's original $68.50.

I can't keep track of such off-the-bitten-path matters in the world of shopping. So I decided to spend the AllSaints money and not to go above the limit this time.

So I shopped at AllSaints Archive.
Bought 2 items for summer: grey almost white jeans and shorts, $40 and $20.

With $8.50 remaining I feel very good about myself: I'm expecting 2 items I need, I still have AllSaints credit, I didn't overspend, and if these denim items fit, I'll look good wearing them. This is my thing with AllSaints - whatever fits, fits me really really well, the reast doesn't work at all, no middle ground here.

Curious about these viscose tops - pretty colors and designs but cheap idea for fabric...

Long skirts

Me fond of long skirts.

Right now I'm looking forward to spring. On Groundhog Day'2012 Punxsutawney Phil predicted long winter... Well, the only thing to tell the people was that the winter is not coming this year. Or may be we are in for April snowstorm. Nevertheless, spring is near.

Territory Ahead choice

Denim. Machine washable. Light, Dark Indigo;
Black (shown), White (sold out in 4, 6, 14, 16)

Linen. Machine washable. Wicker; Slate (above)

AllSaints Spitalfields Toledo Maxi skirt
Lightweight jersey maxi skirt with soft hand feel, elasticated waist and external seam at back. Black. Works for all seasons. No good picture in AllSaints catalog Just imagine a black tube.

A lot of cute but mostly winter (lama wool!) stuff on Peruvian Connection:
La Scala Skirt, cotton
Cuzco Wool Skirt

Strawflower Silk Skirt
If I had bigger storage space I would have bought them all. But I suppose in real life I'm for Territory Ahead white skirt which is sold out in size 4.

Bags and belts

I started with bags. I mean it's a holiday season and a bag is one of the best material presents I can imagine. I value experiences more than objects but this matter is not to be explored here and now. So I brought two bags home to eventually settle on one: Patricia Nash --- 2011 Holiday season -- 3d row, 2nd from the left: looks classy, smells of camel urine (which is fine with me), has certain design flaws - too eagerly detachable strap and rivets embossed with company logo protruding from inside.
This is not the one I got but it's funky and gives you an idea. Patricia Nash "Milano" Large Convertible Satchel could be found at Dillard's ($248). Patricia Nash designs are on sale at Macy's (decent selection), Nordstrom (one model, currently unavailable), Urban Outfitters (good deals, small selection).

The other one is from Fossil. I've been in love with Fossil for so long that my favourite clutch-with-a-strap bag is not manufactured any more.

Vintage Re-Issue flap with lock @188. The one I got is slightly different and it's yellow. Like it but not in love.

Anyway, started searching for a perfect one. Somehow got into Ralph Lauren bags and belts.
Upscale show-off with the logo right into your face. If you check on belts you get an idea of what it's all about.
It's about status.
Well, the one below on the left is from alligator leather @ $1695. It better be high price.
The one on the right is just a belt. A stripe of leather with as buckle @ $325.

More fashion twits

So when you wear this polo shirt with Ralph Lauren logo
bought at TJ Maxx for 30 bucks think about all these alligators and Wall street slaves tortured in order to support the brand.

Getting America back

What was America for people from abroad in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s?
Freedom equated to Levi Strauss blue jeans, Coca-Cola and chewing gum.

Fact: The word DENIM comes from the name of a sturdy fabric called serge, originally made in Nîmes, France, by the André family. Originally called serge de Nîmes, the name was soon shortened to denim. Denim was traditionally colored blue with indigo dye to make blue "jeans".

Fact: when launched, Coca-Cola's two key ingredients were cocaine and caffeine. The cocaine was derived from the coca leaf and the caffeine from kola nut, leading to the name Coca-Cola.

Fact: In 1906, Frank Fleer invented the first bubble gum called Blibber-Blubber gum. However, the bubble blowing chew was never sold. Therefore all credit goes to employee of the Frank H. Fleer Company, Walter Diemer, who invented the successful pink colored Double Bubble, bubble gum.

The Statue of Liberty with Coca Cola bottle torch made a perfect picture meme which swiftly proliferated the web but not everyone knew that it also had jeans underneath the tunic and was about to produce a translucent pink bubble.

My believes: even Cherry Coke Zero is no good for you.

My doubts: this statement - Benefits of Chewing™ (Wrigley). Ask your dentist. I am sure dentists are getting perks from chewing gum manufacturers for promoting gum while manufacturers of gum promote dental business by, well, selling you gum.

But I digressed. It's all about getting America back, and it's about Levi's jeans. The new CurveID campaign is about finding your perfect fit with Levi's® Curve ID: Slight (for women with straight figures, or have trouble finding jeans that fit at the waist), Demi (for women who are more evenly proportioned aka usually the girls who hardly have trouble finding jeans that fit), Bold (for women with curves who experience waist gapping in the back), and Supreme (for women with the curviest shape and need a back with a higher rise so it doesn't sit too low).

Found my curve ID. Ordered 2 sizes (shipping with code CURVES is free). Selected one. Liked it. Wearing my flared demi curve Levi's right now.

Fashion twit

My obsession with long skirt:
ordered one from Territory Ahead for about 60$.
Should be enough for the season unless this one is plain wrong for winter and has to wait till spring.

My watch is bearing fruit: the  skirt on watch (Lanvin skirt from Neiman Marcus) is down from
Original: $2,590.00
to: $1,813.00

 Will keep you posted
